Open Source and profits may not mix

Filed under: Open Social — @ 2:46 pm

Today Reddit, a community driven news and information website like Digg, is going full bore open source, For some time many have suggested that more openness is not only inevitable, it is the best thing for both users and for companies, essentially acting as a sort of miracle grow fertilizer for the internet ecosystem, allowing cross pollination, mashups, and broad use of good ideas. Search, Shop, Sell, with Shopit on AIM

Filed under: Open Social — @ 7:53 pm

With online networks and a plethora of desktop applications connecting people across the world, there’s no reason why online store can’t be better integrated into all of these platforms. That’s what ShopIt thinks, at least. Given the freedom for communication that the web has allowed, the ability to build on such freedom has allowed for the growth of web-based banking, dating, and shopping. It’s expected for these forms of communication and commerce to want to go where the people are. It’s th

WidgetWebExpo Coverage June 17th, 2008 I am in Brooklyn and everything I know about Brooklyn I learned from a Beastie boy song and I drank a few beers and it may just be me, but it seems as though I am damned good looking and everything is sparkle-ly. Oh, the conference thing, WidgetWebExpo has a good mix of developers, advertisers, and curious clients. Finally, A Branded Facebook App That Does Not Make Me Hate Facebook

Filed under: Open Social — @ 5:38 pm

Okay, so the title of this post is a little bit harsh but let’s face it, brands have been doing a terrible job of leveraging Facebook (one might say this is true of the social media space at large, but that is a story for another day). My good buddy C.C Chapman sent over a social media press release about the new CokeTags initiative and my first reaction was, “just what we need, another branded app that will interrupt and annoy, and claim to be joining the conversation”. I was quite wrong (ha

BPM 2.0 Redux

Filed under: Open Social — @ 1:34 am

While I’m glad to see the moniker Bruce Silver and I created two years ago being adopted on the marketplace
