Yahoo Inc. is planning to make its Web site more of a social gathering by hosting applications from other online services. This effort is part of a plan to increase its advertising opportunities. Yahoo is seemingly following the same open platform idea that Google and social networks Facebook and MySpace have already adopted. No Tags — Related Articles at The Credence Dot Com:No Related Posts

Going through the name cards I exchanged from tonight’s event, I count four from Ogilvy, one from SMU and Nadia’s. (Note: no companies) Looking around the blogosphere on ping.sg, there are four posts from Jean, Ian, Ridz and Plaktoz (for now). Now I don’t mean to go back to flogging a dead horse, but there is little to no brand coverage. The blog posts are either on the fellow bloggers they met, or the stuff in the goodie bags. I don’t know about you, but I think there are bigger and better

If the software industry truly is to transcend the PC level and start an entirely new economy on a Web platform, then it doesn’t appear any one player will have an automatic, native advantage. Yahoo is gambling it will be one of those players. There are four centers of gravity emerging in the complex and semi-defined social Web services field, where the application platform is moved from the local or company network to the Web. The proprietors at these four points include Microsoft, whose Live

Yahoo announced last week at the Web 2.0 conference that they are opening up their entire network to developers to build apps and mashups. The announcement was covered by Greg Sterling for SearchEngineLand and the brief 14 minute announcement and explanation by Yahoo CTO Ari Baolgh has been covered by very well by Michael Arrington at TechCrunch. There’s also a wonderfully prescient view from Loren Baker at SearchEngineJournal - from a YEAR ago, which he looks at again in the light of Yahoo anno

If you think I’ve always loved Twitter… Well, I have to say that I wasn’t always a fan. When it first came out, I signed up for it. Tried it. Then, immediately discarded it. Tried it again, still nothing. I even ended up deleting my first Twitter account. A few months later, I tried it again. Liked it a bit better. But, still felt lost on why I shoul

While it’s still premature to be trying to map how Microsoft and Yahoo! assets will align if and when Microsoft ends up taking over Yahoo, the Web-services development arena is likely to be one area where the two vendors’ offerings look increasingly unlikely to mesh. At the Web 2.0 Expo this week, Microsoft unveiled Live Mesh, its Software+Services platform for making its software and services more collaborative and synchronized. At the same show, on April 24, Microsoft takeover target Yahoo

The theme of the Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco (April 22-24, 2008) is ???let???s harness our global brainpower to change the world.??? I find this even more exhilarating than last year???s focus on the Programmable Web. During the opening keynotes, Clay Shirky and Tim O???Reilly laid down the challenge: it???s time to step up to the plate, harness our collective intelligence, and use it to change the world. Scott Berkun put the punctuation mark on this discourse by reminding us, amid a backdro
